Review Summary: Not vintage but ok.
Review Content: I bought a couple of these so that i could play the mighty Kick Off 2 on a PC using an Amiga emulator. They were easy to setup and i was playing within minutes.
The build quality on the outside is that of the vintage Competition Pro joysticks; which is awesome.
There are two negative points though. Those being the main two buttons and the responsiveness of the shaft.
The buttons: if you don't press the button in the exact centre it doesn't always depress the microswitch and then has a chance of getting wedged in.
The shaft: the original Comp. Pro sticks used a rubber bush type thing to recentre the shaft and this was good. This joystick uses a spring and it doesn't work as well as the shaft feels loose and has a tendency to rise up when performing a hefty maneuver.
To be fair though, for £9 it's not too bad and is totally usable.

Review Summary: Agree, poor quality compared to alternate brand
Review Content: I also purchased a Competition Pro USB Joystick manufactured by SPEED-LINK (Product No.: SL-6603) from another retailer. While virtually identical in looks, the SPEED-LINK joystick is superior in build quality compared to this model. This particular joystick tends to stick when moving directions and the buttons are not as responsive (there is some give before the actual micro-switch is pressed).

Review Summary: Poor quality not impressed
Review Content: I loved the old competition pro back in my C64 days and was hoping that buying this would be a welcome relief from the modern tendency to promote nasty gamepads with annoying thumbsticks and too many buttons. The joystick itself is exactly the same as I remembered and the direction microswitches work beautifully. Sadly on the one delivered to me the two main buttons are so poor as to make it useless for gameplay. Unless you press precisley in the centre of the button nothing happens. All in all a seriously frustrating experience.

Review Summary: Great for retro games
Review Content: I bought one of these and it is just as I remember it was for the C64 or ZX Spectrum. Plug it in and away you go, it's that simple (and basic) yet who needs more for playing retro games. Personally I use it with MAME to play those old classic arcade games like R-Type, Space Harrier, Golden Ax, . . . .
